Depending on the number of participants, the series may be played in either a single or a full round robin. If necessary, the series can be combined. A player in a younger age group may choose to play in an older age group. This must be stated at the time of registration.

The top three players in each category will be awarded the medals of the Finnish chess Championship. In addition, the three best girls in each category will be awarded medals. In tie-breaks, bronze medals will be awarded in accordance with the rules of the Finnish chess Championships. For the positions that affect the representative rankings (1st and 2nd place), a replay will be played in the overall and girls' series. In the case of two players, the replay will be carried out as follows:
1. In alternate colours, quick chess with a thinking time of 15 min + 10 s/move.
2. Alternate colour rapid chess with FIDE rapid chess rules. Thinking time 5 min + 3 s/move.
3. Alternate colour rapid chess with FIDE rapid chess rules. Thinking time 3 min + 2 s/move.
4. Armageddon game, with 6 minutes for the white player and 5 minutes for the black player. In addition, a 2 sec. move bonus from the 61st move onwards. In case of a tie or black victory, the black player wins the championship.

In the event of a possible multi-player replay, the referee will determine how the replay will be conducted before the start of the final round.

During the rounds, only the officials and players of the competition will have access to the playing area. All players must keep minutes throughout the game. At the first illegal move completed, the referee shall give the opposing player who committed the foul an additional two minutes. If the same player commits a second illegal move, he loses the game. However, the game is a draw if the opponent cannot checkmate the king of the offending player with any legal set of moves.
