Schoolchildren's Finnish Championships in chess
October 25-26, 2025
Matinkylän Shakkikerho ry. is organizing, with the permission of the Finnish Chess Federation, the 2025
Schoolchildren's Finnish Championships on October 25-26, 2025. The competitions will be held in the following age groups:
A: born in 2005 or later
B: born in 2009-2010 or later
C: born in 2011-2012 or later
D: born in 2013-2014 or later
E: born in 2015-2016 or later
F: born in 2017 or later
NOTE: Players in a younger age group may choose to play in an older age group
(e.g., an E series player in the A series). Any choice of group that differs from the player's year of birth must be
indicated at the time of registration. In addition, there will be an O group, which is
open to all teachers and guardians.
Competition format:
A maximum of seven (7) rounds. If more than one player ends up with the same number of points, the championship will be
decided by a playoff between the players with the most points.
Playing time:
50 minutes plus 10 seconds per move.

Päivänkehrän koulu school in Espoo, address Päivänkehräntie 2, 02210 Espoo.

Sunday, October 26, 2025:
9:00–11:00 a.m. Round 5
11:15 a.m.–1:15 p.m. Round 6
12:30 p.m.–2:00 p.m. Lunch
2:00 p.m.–4:00 p.m. Round 7
Approx. 4:15 p.m. Award ceremony
Awards:
The top three players in each category will receive medals. There will be no separate categories for girls,
but the best girls in each category will receive Finnish Championship medals.
Penalties:
The Finnish Chess Union will grant the two best players in categories A-E the right to represent Finland
in the Nordic Championship competition. The union will decide later on possible representation in the girls' Nordic Championship competition.
Participation fee and registration:
The participation fee for all series is €30.
Registration should be done primarily via the registration link
by Monday, October 20, 2025, at the latest. The form must include the player's name,
exact date of birth, school name, any meal reservations, and the name of the person who paid the participation fee
. Late registration is not possible at the venue.
The participation fee must be paid to the Matinkylä Chess Club's bank account (Nordea FI15 2290 2001 0521 42)
by Monday, October 24, 2025, at the latest. After this, you can still ask if there is room in the competition
by Thursday, October 28, 2022, in the evening. The list of participants will be published on the Matinkylä Chess Club's
website at www.shakki.net/kerhot/MatSK/koululaistensm .
The competition will count towards Finnish rating points (selo), and participants are required to have a player license
if they have played at least 11 selo games.
Other information:
The competition will be judged by FT Panu Laine and KvT Jouni Lehtivaara.
Meals will be available at the venue for those who have booked in advance. Meals
(€10 per meal; spaghetti and minced meat sauce on Saturday, meat lasagna on Sunday; vegan option available)
will be paid for when the participation fee is paid.
There may be some noise from the gym during the games, so those who are sensitive to noise may
consider bringing earplugs. Earplugs must not contain any electronic components and must be approved by the judges.
